The sisters took different paths: Helen Marie served as a kindergarden teacher in the Catholic School System for more than 40 years. But that wasn’t all! Auntie was also a dancer and, six days a week, went straight to her afternoon and evening passion as a dance instructor, trained in New York. She touched thousands of young dancers who shared her passion and love of dance and music filled her studio and her life.
Josephine (Jo) served as a registered nurse who extended her love of pediatric nursing into a love for her five children. Always ready to offer the loving hands of a nurse and the loving heart of a mother, Jo nursed the bruises of a neighborhood while nurturing a family who always associated her with her sister who frequented the home and always chipped in when tending to five kids got to be a little challenging! Jo was also an artist who took time from her painting to paint scenery which decorated the stage during Helen Marie’s dance recitals. Seasonally, she also painted door decorations for her home which were widely acclaimed and eagerly awaited as the seasons changed. No, a simple wreath did not work for Jo!
It is fitting that Auntie and Jo would join together to form Auntie Jo’s even if just in name since the venture was actually begun by Jo’s daughter and namesake, along with her business partner, who thought a site filled with country collectibles needed a fun name which also symbolized hard work, loving families, friendship, and honesty… Auntie and Jo were logical choices. While Auntie and Jo do not work at the store, the creation of it as their namesakes was an exciting prospect and both have offered the prayers and accolades for its success. Now, you wouldn’t want to disappointed Auntie Jo now would you? Happy Shopping!
